Walk of the week: Wonderful woodland and countryside in Athelhampton

Every week we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be able to receive the walk first every Friday and be able to enjoy it over the weekend.

This week's walk takes in the woodland and countryside around Athelhampton and is around three and a half miles, taking around one hour and 20 minutes.

Starting at Athelhampton church, walk up beside it with it on your left and take the footpath to the far right. Continue along this path until it forks to the left, take this left footpath.

Follow this path and go around to the right and stay to the right where it forks just before some tall trees and you will come to a metal. Go through the gate and walk straight along the edge of the field.

As you come to the edge of a wood, there is a gate in the left had corner of the field, go through the gate and continue along that path until you get to a crossroads where you turn left.

The path will go down adjacent to the field and continue along this path until it forks to the left and right where you will take the left path.

Continue straight past a right turn and then a right fork and when the path comes to a field, follow the path round to the right. At the T-junction, follow the path round to the right as the left path goes into a field.

Follow the path until you get to another lane and turn left into Park Farm. Continue straight while walking through the farm.

The track will then become a footpath with fields on either side. Continue along this path and it will come out behind the church, turn right and you are back at the start.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.
