Mosaic is a small charity with big ambitions. We have a vibrant, enthusiastic team of staff and trustees and after moving offices, refreshing our logo and building a new website, we are keen to reach even more young people in Dorset who have been bereaved.
We are looking for two trustees who share our ambition and dirve, who are Dorset-based and who have the time to become involved and shape Mosaic's present and its future.
We offer children and young people support; through counselling from one of our many trained counsellors, or at one of our bereavement cafes in school. Trustees can join our volunteers with our children and young people at activity days such as sailing in Portland or attending one of our day camps. Children and young people can meet one another, share their experience if they are ready, play games, talk, do different activities all with the help of our amazing staff, counsellors and volunteers.
Who are we looking for?
Our trustees will be Dorset-based. Their experience may be in charity legal issues, finance and fundraising or business management. However, life skills gained in a range of walks of life are also an important consideration in our recruitment. Training for candidates new to the position of trustee will be provided.
We are also keen to hear from people who were bereaved themselves as a young person or whose family have received support from Mosaic and who have benefitted from Mosaic support.
What will you do?
Trustees do not act alone. They are not expected to singly or individually undertake all the responsibilities without the other trustees. Mosaic trustees will be expected to:
undertake safeguarding training
undertake 'understanding bereavement' training
ensure an understanding of how Mosaic operates
read papers for board meetings, requesting clarification where required and attend quarterly board meetings
where required, work on specific projects with other trustees or staff to further Mosaic's strategic objectives
participate in discussion during board meetings
work with other trustees to
o set strategic direction
o set targets and evaluate Mosaic's performance
o ensure finances and financial control systems are in order that safeguard Mosaic's resources and full financial records are correct and up to date
o monitor Mosaic's financial situation and how well Mosaic meets the needs of the people it supports
What's in it for you?
The opportunity to:
Make a positive impact for the children and young people Mosaic supports by ensuring the charity is sustainable and meets the needs of those it supports
Meet people and build relationships with staff, trustees and other volunteers
Use and improve your governance, leadership and strategy skills
