Dorchester walk of the week: Circular walk to Maiden Castle Farm

We have introduced a walk of the week for our newsletter subscribers to enjoy over the weekend.
Each Friday we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.
As Maiden Castle Farm's sunflower maize is now open, this week's walk is a 3mile circular route there from Poundbury, taking around one hour 15 minutes, which doesn't include stopping at the farm.
Start at the Parkway Farm junction, facing the main road turn right to walk down a gravel pavement past Dorwest Herbs, turning right when you get to a car park and going through a wooden gate, turning right to continue on the path.
When the path reaches another, turn left and go round to the right. Where the path forks, stay to the right.
The path will split in two, going up hill to the left, but take the right-hand path. Follow this path and you will come out onto a road, turn right to go over the bridge and where the pavement ends there will be a path off the road on your right. When this path ends and meets the road, Maiden Castle Farm is on your left.
Take some time to enjoy the sunflower maize, as well as walk further up to Maiden Castle and explore the iron age hill fort.
When you have finished at Maiden Castle Farm, cross over the road and turn left on to the path to walk towards Maiden Castle. When the path comes out onto the road, turn right to go down the path signposted 'Bridport 20, Axminster 31'.
Continue along this path until you come a crossroads and turn right. When the path reaches the road, go down the 'permissive path' ahead of you. Keep following this path, going round to the left when it meets a road bridge, going under it and go straight along the path until you reach a metal gate.
Go through the gate and take the footpath opposite, back the way you came at the beginning of the walk. Go through the next gate and you will come back out at the car park, taking the footpath to your left back to Parkway Farm.
This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.
Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.
Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
