An empty shop in the town centre could be converted into a pet grooming and washing facility.

A planning application to change the use of the building in Nappers Court, Charles Street, has been submitted to Dorset Council.

The building used to house an optician but is currently empty, with plans to offer a dog grooming service and sell pet accessories.

Dorchester Town Council and the highway authority have no objection to the proposals.

It is not known if or how many jobs the pet grooming and washing facility will create.

Comments on the planning application are open until January 10. It can be found here.
