A Remembrance Sunday parade and service should be going ahead in Dorchester this weekend, unless there are changes to Covid restrictions.

A spokesman for Dorchester Town Council said: "We are currently working towards business as usual for the Remembrance Sunday parade and service on Sunday, November 14 with a service at the war memorial at 10.55am.

"To help protect each other, and in particular those vulnerable attendees, we would encourage attendees and participants to wear a mask/facial covering and to take a lateral flow test on the evening before or the morning of the service.

"Please not that we are continuing to keep an eye on the continuing growth of Covid rates in the county, particularly among the young who make up an important part of the parade. If instructed by higher authorities to reduce the scale of the service we will, of course, be required to comply."

The order of service will be available from Dorchester-tc.gov.uk in due course.

Dorset Council will be live-streaming its remembrance service this year, which takes place on Armistice Day (Thursday, November 11) at County Hall from 10.45am.

The service will be led by Revd John Yarrien and the introduction will be read by councillor Val Pothecary, chairman of Dorset Council, before the wreaths will be laid.

A bugler will be in attendance and the Lord Lieutenant Angus Campbell and Major Dan Tanner will read out the Exhortation and Kohima respectively, followed by a two-minute silence.

Cllr Pothecary said: "The pandemic will not stop us from honouring the sacrifice of the fallen and valour of our veterans.

"We will remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel and those that have lost their lives as a result or armed conflict or terrorism and all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.

"We hope that residents will join the service via the live-stream and we encourage people to mark the two-minute silence at 11am."
