Boris Johnson has revealed a four part plan to ease restrictions in England

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson has revealed a four part plan to ease restrictions in England, which will be "cautiously" lifted.

Four-part plan will be driven by data rather than dates and the introduction of each step will depend on four 'tests' - the success of the vaccine rollout, the number of hospital admissions and deaths falling, the amount of pressure o NHS and the impact of any variants. Restrictions will be eased in all areas at the same time.

The plan could mean all restrictions are lifted on June 21.

The PM said there will be at least five weeks between each of the four steps, with step one happening on March 8 in which pupils and students return to schools and breakfast and afterschool clubs will restart. Care home residents can nominate one visitor.

From March 29, there will be limited changes to who can meet up to coincide with the school Easter holidays. This includes the rule of six returning outdoors and in private gardens. Two households will also be permitted to get together, whether that is six people or more. Outdoor sports facilities can reopen and people will no longer be legally required to stay at home, but should work from home if they can.

From April 12, under step two, non-essential retail, hairdressers and nail salons will reopen, along with gyms and holiday lets for individuals or household groups. Pubs and restaurants will be allowed to serve people outdoors.

There will be no curfew in step two of easing restrictions and no requirement for alcohol to be accompanied by a substantial meal.

Step three will begin no earlier than May 17 when most outdoor restrictions will be lifted and pubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, sport stadiums and other venues can reopen indoors.

Step four, no earlier than June 21, will removed limits on social contact, including weddings and the PM hopes to lift restrictions on large events and performances, "potentially using testing to reduce the risk of infection".

He said: "Today the end really is in sight."
