Walk of the week: Stinsford and Kingston Maurward

By Lottie Welch 31st May 2021

We are introducing a new feature - a walk of the week.

Every week we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be able to receive the walk first every Friday and be able to enjoy it over the weekend.

This week's walk takes in Stinsford and Kingston Maurward, starting at St Michael's Church in Stinsford. It takes around 45 minutes and is just less than two miles. It is easy walking.

Starting at the church take the lane to the left and follow it around the church and continue straight as it turns into a footpath.

Turn left when you cannot continue straight and go over the bridge. This is part of Hardy Way. Continue along here until you reach a left hand turn signposted 'Hardy's Birthplace' and turn left here.

Continue straight and at the crossroads turn left, which is also sign posted 'Hardy's Birthplace'. Continue straight on, past junctions to your left and right, following the sign to 'Kingston Maurward House'.

At the zebra crossing, go up the footpath on you right, following it round to the right. Go through the gate and follow the path round to the left and up.

Go through the gate on your left, following the footpath with paddocks on either side. Continue along this path until you reach the road.

Cross the road and go through the metal gate to the left. It was quite overgrown when we walked it, but passable. This path will come out onto the road, turn right and walk past Birkin House and the main entrance to Kingston Maurward.

Take the road to the left signposted 'Stinsford church and village'. Follow this road until you are back at the church and at the start.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.
