SENIOR Dorset Council officer Aidan Dunn, who holds the finance brief, is moving cross-border to take control of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council.

He will take over from Graham Farrant who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Mr Dunn's appointment, expected to be on a salary of more than £200,000 a year, is subject to final approval by the council on June 3rd.

During his time in Dorset he has been seen as a reliable and forward-thinking officer, approachable, and with a good sense of humour.

Some may suggest that he will need all of those attributes at BCP which, at times, has been troubled, has occassionally seen political in-fighting and is financially stretched.

His appointment comes after what BCP say was a rigerous recruitment process.

In a news release announcing his appointment BCP said: "Aidan is an accomplished and forward-thinking public sector leader with over three decades of experience spanning local government, the civil service and the NHS. Currently the Executive Director of Corporate Development at Dorset Council, he has played a pivotal role in establishing the new unitary authority, leading transformation programs, and overseeing the council's finances. His leadership has improved service delivery and fostered strong partnerships across sectors.

"A Dorset resident, Aidan brings a wealth of expertise in finance, transformation, infrastructure, and customer services, underpinned by a deep commitment to community engagement, climate action, and inclusive leadership. He is a Chartered Public Finance Accountant."

Leader of BCP Council, Millie Earl, (Lib Dem) said: "I am delighted to recommend Aidan as our new Chief Executive. He brings a wealth of experience, energy and enthusiasm and I am confident he will work with members to take BCP Council on the next stage of our exciting journey.

"Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is an area brimming with potential and I am confident that Aidan will build on what we've already established to create a council that supports members to deliver for our residents, businesses, partners and visitors."

Mr Dunn, in a statement, said he has been waitching "with great admiration the work which BCP Council has done since it was created in 2019.

"I feel both excited and very privileged to have the chance to be part of the future.

"This is a vibrant and ambitious place with huge potential, and I'm looking forward to working with talented colleagues, councillors, partners and residents to deliver excellent services, drive innovation, and make a real difference for our communities."
