Comedy, music and more will be coming to Dorchester this September.
Dorchester Arts has announced its line-up for the month, the beginning of a full autumn season to take place at both the Corn Exchange and the new Hardye Theatre at Thomas Hardye School.
Comedy is a strong strand in the season. Powerhouse Kiri Pritchard-McLean is the first of several talented female comedians performing this autumn, and surreal comedian Paul Foot presents his brand new show, Swan Power. Plus a news talent showcase in the first of four Comedy Network evenings, featuring Roger Monkhouse, Danny Clives and Horrible Histories' Naz Osmanoglu.
Three music performances embrace traditional Celtic music, with The Tannahill Weavers making the journey from their native Glasgow to Dorset. Dorchester favourite Frank Griffith presents Jazz Meets Bacharach. And award-winning young pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason returns to Dorchester to perform in the newly refurbished Thomas Hardye Theatre.
The new facilities at the Corn Exchange now offer the opportunity to show films in cinematic quality. The first of these will be Pantani: The Accidental Death of a Cyclist - the story of a cycling legend to celebrate the Tour of Britain passing through Dorchester.
A double bill highlights local actor/writer Sue Wylie, exploring the experience of living with Parkinson's. Both based on Sue's story, What a Load of Balls: The Parkinson's Lottery (aka WALOB), and her earlier film, Kinetics, will be shown as a double bill for the first time.
Dorchester Arts will also be welcoming back Living Spit with Adolf and Winston, walking the tightrope of taste and decency with another slice of poorly researched history.
