A 'BEER SCHOOL' is being proposed for a former farm site near Dorchester.

The proposal is part of a craft beer business which has applied for a Premises Licence to operate from a small unit at Duck Farm Workshops, Bockhampton.

Bully Brews, founded by Mr Alan Williams, has submitted an application to Dorset Council for permission to sell alcohol both on and off the premises. The proposed hours for alcohol sales are from 10am to 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 8pm on Sundays.

The venue, listed as Unit F4, will serve as the base for an online store specialising in craft beers from independent UK breweries. In addition to online sales, the unit will feature two taps and a small bar area, allowing customers to purchase kegged and canned beer in person.

Mr Williams also plans to launch a "beer school" at the site, offering educational classes on the history and styles of traditional and modern beer. These sessions will be limited to a maximum of eight attendees and will be closed to the general public during class times.

Mr Williams says there are no plans for live music or other entertainment at the site and outlines measures to uphold licensing objectives, including: CCTV coverage inside and outside the premises; a strict Challenge 25 policy for age verification and policies to prevent public nuisance and ensure public safety.

Said Mr Williams in the application to Dorset Council: "Despite being a small business with minimal capacity, we have taken many steps to uphold the licensing objectives. We take this aspect of what we do very seriously and are open to any further clarification or questions anyone has."

The application is currently under consideration by Dorset Council with members of the public able to submit comments or objections.
