FIREFIGHTERS were unable to save a car that caught fire in a laybay in the Piddlehinton area.

It was reported that the car had been parked there for several days and there was a 'police aware' sticker on it.

An alarm was raised at 1.58am today (Saturday, 16 December) and a crew from Dorchester responded.

On arrival the vehicle was well alight so the crew got to work with one breathing apparatus wearer and a hosereel jet.

The officer in charge requested a second appliance for more water which came from Dorchester.

The fire was extinguished using one breathing apparatus wearer and two hosereel jets.
