Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to bring Cake Concert to Dorchester's Shire Hall

Dorchester's Shire Hall Museum is expanding its work with people living with dementia by hosting a dementia-friendly Cake Concert.
The Cake Concert, on Thursday, May 26, will feature musicians from Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and has been designed especially for people living with dementia.
Guests can enjoy tea, coffee and cake whilst sat at tables in a friendly, relaxed setting as they are serenaded by the BSO's Teatime Trio, consisting of flute, harp and cello.
In August 2021, Shire Hall Museum launched its Memory Café with support from David Upshall Insurance. Held at the museum monthly, Shire Hall's Memory Café offers relaxed reminiscence sessions providing socialisation and activities for people living with dementia and their family and carers.
Anne Brown, learning manager at Shire Hall Museum, said: "We are so excited to be hosting a BSO Cake Concert at Shire Hall.
"We currently run a monthly Memory Café reminiscence session for people living with dementia and their carers, it's an active and social morning - and great fun too.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to expand what we provide and a real privilege to be working with the BSO. What can be better than an afternoon listening to music and eating cake."
Working closely with Alzheimer's Society, the BSO designed its Cake Concerts specifically to cater to the needs of those living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers. These events have a profound effect on movement and communication amongst audience members, creating a positive shared experience for all who attend.
Tickets for the Cake Concert at Shire Hall Museum are £5, this includes refreshments during the concert. They are available online or at the Shire Hall Museum's shop.
