Public toilet opening times at Dorchester's Great Field may need to be re-considered with its growing popularity.

Town councillors heard that the loos are currently only open when the café is – but with longer evenings the new play areas is now in use for many more hours.

One councillor told of a visit to the park with a grandson, which had resulted in "an accident" and a quick dash to the Poundbury GP surgery, whose facilities are only supposed to be for patients.

He said that longer hours ought to be considered.

The new play area, recently opened by Prince Charles, has been largely paid for by developer's financial contributions, but does not include "stand alone" toilets.

The care and maintenance of the area is now in the hands of Dorchester Town Council.

Town clerk Steve Newman told the meeting that, for the moment, the only toilets were in the café, limited to opening hours, and there were no further plans at the moment to change that arrangement.
