Charity Angels UK is seeking local women with a personal experience of breast cancer to strut their stuff on the catwalk in Dorchester.

The charity hopes its fashion show in aid of Against Breast Cancer will help models to show how far they have come and that you can look good and feel terrific even after such a difficult diagnosis.

Models of all ages are welcome – some will be recently diagnosed, some will be many years past treatment and some will be living with secondary breast cancer.

The fashion show will take place in the Victorian Hall at Dorset Museum on Thursday, October 12 from 6pm to 9pm.

A range of local retailers will provide outfits for different 'scenes' in the show, which is being sponsored by Poundbury-based RiskSTOP Group Ltd.

Every year, more than 55,000 women and approximately 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK. Survival rates have improved hugely in the last 30 years with treatment tailored to individuals and their specific breast cancer. However, about 8,000 women will lose their lives to what is still a scary and cruel disease.

Few, if any of us, do not know someone who has been touched by breast cancer. Women and families talk of their shock, the devastating side effects that can occur – hair loss, weight gain, low level infections.

Part of their recovery is rediscovering themselves and learning to live with this new 'normal'. The Charity Angels UK fashion show aims to help with this important rediscovery.

Tickets for the fashion how will be available from September at £25 per head to include a fizz and canape reception, entertainment and a commemorative programme.

For anyone interested in becoming a model and helping raise funds for charity, applications are open until the end of August. For more information and how to apply email [email protected] or contact them via the Facebook page Charity Angels UK Dorchester Fashion Show.
