This year is the 100th anniversary of the death of Sir Charles Villiers Stanford.

Although Stanford is, perhaps, best remembered as a composer, he was also a leading conductor of his time and was pivotal in the development of music education during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in his role as a professor at both the Royal College of Music and Cambridge University.

His compositional legacy will be celebrated in Choral Evensong at St Peter's Church, Dorchester this Saturday 27 April at 4.30pm with a programme of music that includes his motet 'Beati quorum via', the 'Evening Canticles in G', 'The Lord is my Shepherd' and Brian Cotteril's 'Preces & Responses', which playfully incorporate many of the composer's best-known themes. This is an hour-long, free event and those attending are invited to enjoy a glass of wine afterwards.
