Walkers will be putting their best foot forward for charity next month for the annual walk to the River Jordan to raise funds for Christian Aid.
The eight-mile sponsored walk will take place on Saturday 17th September, beginning at St Peter's Church, Dorchester at 9:39am and will finish at Bowleaze Cove, Preston. Return after lunch will be by public transport.
Tony Boyden, chair of the Dorchester and District Christian Aid group, said the walk was a great opportunity to raise funds for Christian Aid's emergency appeal in East Africa.
Mr Boyden said millions of people across the region were facing the threat of famine following the worst drought in 40 years: "We need to support Christian Aid who are helping over 300,000 in Ethiopia and Kenya by repairing wells, handing out water purification kits, trucking water to drought affected communities and providing fodder and medicine to keep valuable livestock alive."
The local group is encouraging churches across the town to hold collections for the charity's emergency appeal or by supporting it on line.
Sponsor forms for the walk are available from Phil Stacey (Tel: 0794 2821848) or [email protected] or from Tony Boyden (Tel: 01305 268726) or from the United Church bookshop.
