Council unlikely to sign up for national parking scheme

DORSET Council says it is currently unlikely to immediately join in a national parking app' scheme.
The system allows user to take advantage of just one platform rather than have to download and register for multiple parking apps.
The National Parking Platform is Government-backed and includes the main parking companies.
Said a spokesperson for Dorset Council "It is something that we are monitoring closely as it develops to ensure it is the right step to take for the council and the users of the car parks.
"We are committed to keeping a variety of payment methods in our car parks and to that end we do have payment machines that take cash, card or Apple and Android payment methods.
"This ensures there is a viable option for those that don't have our current payment app (Just Park).
"We will continue to keep a close eye on all changes to parking technology to make sure we have the right fit for Dorset."
The National Parking Platform said: "the not-for-profit initiative designed to end the need for multiple parking apps. It acts as an open platform connecting various parking providers, allowing motorists to use their preferred app (such as RingGo or JustPark) across different council car parks."
It says the NPP connects existing apps and parking operators, ensuring the driver's preferred app works across participating locations.
Following successful trials in 10-15 area, it is being rolled out across England, with councils encouraged to sign up to stop the "scramble" for different apps.
Among the apps which work with NPP are RingGo, JustPark, PayByPhone and the NCP app.
The project is governed by the British Parking Association (BPA), Local Authorities, and service providers.
