A speeding motorcyclist and dangerously bald tyres welcomed Dorset Traffic Cops as they patrolled in Dorchester yesterday.

Two drivers were reported and given advice by the team.

A spokesman for Dorset Traffic Cops said: "Disappointment in Dorchester for us… not with the place, people or climate, but with the offences we found. The first was a vehicle in town, which appeared to have a tyre well on its way to being flat. This was the least of worries when we looked at the others and found large patches of tread missing and cords exposed. The driver was reported but spared a prohibition out of sheer luck that we'd stopped them outside a tyre shop.

"We then stopped a motorbike on the Puddletown bypass travelling well in excess of the national speed limit. The rider was out for pleasure but as a vulnerable road user, was likely to endure some physical pain riding at this pace. The rider was reported and given some advice to keep them safe for future rides."
