A new Scout hut is being proposed at Crossways on the Brownjohn Copse site off Redbridge Road.

The steel-framed building is expected to be almost 19m by 12m and just short of 4m to the eaves, if approved.

The application to Dorset Council has been made by Dorchester and West Dorset Scouts for the site which has been used, until now, for camping and outdoor events for the organisation.

The proposed hut is to have a hall, kitchen, toilets and dormitories for Scout jamborees and cook outs with a covered walkway with disabled access. It will be finished in timber cladding, anthracite uPVC windows and a box profile insulated composite panel roof.

A planning agent's statement with the application for planning consent said: "The proposal seeks to mitigate any problems in regard to bad weather and make the best use of the site for local groups and any fundraising and events. Internally the proposal has dormitories, a hall, a kitchen and toilets."

The site is between the solar farm and the quarry.

Further details of the application, ref 2022/02228, can be seen on the Dorset Council website with public comments open until April 28.
