Time is running out for children to get their designs in for this year's Christmas lights at Brewery Square.

They have the chance to see their artistic talents come to life through a competition to create their own addition to the town's festive decorations.

The 'Creative Kids – design a light' campaign will see Brewery Square create an illuminated motif from a child's drawing for Christmas. The competition offers budding young artists the opportunity to showcase their work in Brewery Square.

Charlotte Spracklen, centre manager of Brewery Square, said: "We're all so excited to bring this initiative to Dorchester this Christmas and hope it will help highlight some of the brilliant young talent that we have here in the town. We can't wait to see everyone's entries and illuminate the square with their creations – we anticipate it's going to be a difficult one to judge."

The winning designs will be transformed into a display at Brewery Square by leading festive light company Blachere Illumination and will be hung from the square's lamp posts.

The competition is free to enter, suitable for children of all ages, and any organisation is able to participate. Children will have full creative control over their design, within a colour palette of pure and warm white, blue, green, red, orange and pink. The designs may also have the child's name added in rope light to the completed motif if requested – allowing the children to literally see their name in lights at Brewery Square over the festive period.

To enter, children can collect an entry form from Brewery Square's Concierge Office, Maxgate Properties, Margo and Mya, or Seventh Seal. The form will include a space to draw a design, and should be returned to Brewery Square's Concierge Office, before Saturday, August 28.
