Dorchester business of the month: Cards For Any Occasion

At Dorchester Nub News, we love to promote and highlight local, independent businesses.

This month's business is Cards For Any Occasion, run by photographer Rachel Boucher.

Over the past year she has been selling cards printed with beautiful images she has captured in and around the local area.

Rachel said: "During the first lockdown, I was fortunate enough to have a daily escape from the news right on my doorstep. I soon realised how, over the years, I had taken living in this beautiful and varied part of the world for granted, so began posting photos from my daily walks on Facebook and Instagram. I was amazed at how many messages from those who couldn't get out for whatever reason got in touch saying how my daily walks had become a highlight of their day and helped them keep calm and could I please do something with my photos."

So, in January Rachel started the self-employment process and launched Cards For Any Occasion in April 2021.

Rachel now creates a range of beautiful greeting cards, ethically printed in Dorchester, and are suitable for all and any occasion - which is perfect with Mother's Day just around the corner.

She added: "I have lived in Dorset for most of my life and always enjoyed getting out, exploring all that is on offer, especially away from all well-known places. Walks off the beaten track, free for all to enjoy are my favourites, which is why I have named my range of cards, Hidden Dorset. This is also an indication that. The majority of my photos are taken in the middle of nowhere so impossible to actually give a definite location.

"I have a visual impairment, so I am very grateful for the freedom photography gives me.

"It has been amazing to hear from many people how they have used my cards as part of a meditation or visual calming aids as well as sending them to friends and family, especially during the lockdowns when so many people couldn't access outside space."

One comment Rachel received said: "There is an individual interpretation for everyone, your photography transcends what is pictured to something more."

Rachel said: "The majority of people who see my cards say they can imagine stepping into my pictures and escaping for a while.

"All my photographs are authentic and unedited, celebrating the Dorset countryside."

Rachel's cards are 5x7 inches and left blank inside, each coming with an envelope and clear wrapper. They cost £2.50 each or five for £10 plus postage and packaging. They are available by emailing [email protected] and Rachel will also be at a number of upcoming fairs.
