Here at Dorchester Nub News, we love to promote and highlight local, independent businesses.

This month's business is The Jewel House in Trinity.

The business has been in Dorchester for nearly 60 years and sells pre-owned and new jewellery offering bespoke items made to specifications, scrap gold, rethreading, engraving, jewellery cleaning, jewellery and watch repairs, battery replacements, new watch straps and bracelets, bracelet alterations and small part jobs.

Clara Watters is the proud owner of Dorchester's The Jewel House, which is continuing a family tradition spanning three generations.

She said: "My grandparents started a business in 1963 with my father joining them and running the shop until he retired in 2019. After nearly 20 years in the trade, it was in March 2019 that I opened my own shop carrying on the jewellery business.

"They certainly did inspire me and my love for jewellery.

"I was still at school when my grandparents had the shop but would go in sometimes on a Saturday and help when able to."

Just as Clara was celebrating a year being open, Covid hit.

She added: "My business has suffered during Covid, as I had just had my first year when we had to close due to the pandemic, which really didn't help, causing times to be difficult."

But The Jewel House is back open now, from 10am to 4pm on weekdays and Saturday, closed on Mondays.
