Dorchester department store, Goulds, has gifted 50 duvets to Ukrainian families settling in the local area.

The donation is being delivered to a newly opened warehouse on the Granby Industrial Estate in Weymouth. Organised by the Weymouth for Ukraine group, the warehouse redistributes donations to families from the war-torn country moving into the Dorset area.

Chris Gould, company director, Goulds Stores, said: "Local community is important to us and we always try to help where we can. When we heard a new warehouse was opening in the area, we contacted Gail, the organiser, to see how we could support Ukrainian families settle into their new local homes. These 50 duvets will hopefully help."

The duvet donation has a retail value in excess of £3,250.

Gail Reynolds, organiser of Weymouth for Ukraine, said: "What a great donation. This generous gift from Goulds Stores is a welcome bonus and provides one of the essential, and often, more expensive items the families need. The bedding will go straight to the Ukrainian families who need it, whether they are guests of local people or finding independent accommodation. Thank you."

The Weymouth for Ukraine warehouse opened its doors on May 31. It is the brainchild of Gail Reynolds and Caroline Whitely, who recognised Ukrainian families need access to essential items here in Dorset. Especially since the closure of a similar facility which has been operating temporarily in Bridport. Whilst the new Weymouth warehouse will accommodate the remaining stock from the Bridport closure, they are also on the lookout for donations to meet the increasing demand.

Organiser Caroline Whitely said: "We are delighted with the response we have received so far, but more is needed. Everyone can help, whether you are a business or individual. Bring your donations to our warehouse at 10 Cambridge Road, Granby Industrial Estate, Weymouth. We are open from Tuesday to Thursday, 10am to 12noon. Please check out our Facebook group, Weymouth for Ukraine, for more details or email Gail at [email protected]."
