Dorchester: Grade II listed bridge to be repaired - with hopes it can be completed without road closures

Repairs are to be carried out on a listed 18th century road bridge on the outskirts of Dorchester.

Mohun's Little Bridge, on the old Sherborne Road, close to the Sun Inn, has suffered from cracks in the stonework and bricks breaking up under at least one of the three arches.

Because the structure is Grade II listed, Dorset councillors have had to approve the repairs which will mainly involve replacing displaced masonry and re-pointing with the addition of some stainless steel structural ties to strengthen the structure.

The bridge, although little of it can be seen from the C12 Burton Road road, is described as a fine example of a late 18th century structure.

It is hoped that most, if not all of the repairs, can be carried out without the need to close the road.
