West Dorset MP Chris Loder is backing Rishi Sunak to be the next Conservative leader.

The race comes after Liz Truss resigned this week after just 45 days in post. It makes her the shortest-serving PM in UK history.

Liz Truss resigned after believing she couldn't "deliver the mandate" to which she was elected on.

Mr Loder said in a statement: "This week, West Dorset people have made it clear to me that political and economical stability is the most important priority for me as their MP in my decision for the next Conservative Leader.

"It is clear to me that the person best placed to do this is Rishi Sunak and I am very pleased to support him with my vote on Monday."
