A public path around County Hall, Dorchester, has been closed on safety grounds.

The footpath, which runs along West Walks parallel with The Grove, has been cordoned off after part of the wall became unstable, close to the pedestrian entrance to the Roman Town House and on the corner with Northernhay, although none of the roads are affected.

Dorset Council says the path will remain shut while repairs are carried out. The authority hopes to have the path, which is popular with walkers and runners, open again by March 2.

Access to the Roman Town House remains open.
