Dorchester: Plans for six homes in Broadmayne on site of cottage destroyed by fire

An outline planning application has been submitted for six homes on a site off Knighton Lane at Broadmayne.
The application, from Mr James Meaden, says the site, 19A, has previously been used for caravans.
It proposes removing the caravans to make way for six two-bed properties in two blocks of three terraced homes, fronting the road, each with around 50 square metres of garden space to the rear.
The site, which is within 150 yards of the village school, was previously occupied by a small cottage on the site which was destroyed in a fire more than 20 years ago and then replaced by a mobile home.
An application report says that there has been caravans on the site dating back to the 1950s and the land has a certificate of lawfulness dating from 2021.
A planning agent's report to Dorset Council says that the properties will be "well-designed…providing a number of low-cost dwellings in close proximity to local services" making efficient and effective use of the site in a sustainable location providing much required low-cost open market housing.
The application, ref 2021/05611 on the Dorset Council website, is open for public comment until March 24.
