Dorchester Police are warning residents of a scam received by one of their officers.

PCSO Donnison received a call from the number shown claiming that her National Insurance number had been compromised. An automated message advised her that to fix the supposed issue she should press 1 on her handset to be connected to the caller.

A spokesman for Dorchester Police said: "Obviously, she hung up.

"If she had pressed 1, she would have been pressured into providing her personal details under the guise of obtaining a new National Insurance number.

"She would have in fact been connected to a criminal who would have been able to use the newly gained information to commit fraud."
