Plans for a classroom at a Dorchester school, made from converted shipping containers, are expected to be approved by Dorset councillors.

The unit, made from four containers, is proposed for the pre-school on the Manor Park Church of England First School site, off Mellstock Avenue.

If approved at a planning committee meeting next Tuesday (January 24), it will be placed on an existing hardstanding area, behind the school building, close to the southern boundary of the site.

The application says the school wants to site the converted 10×6 metre classroom on the playground near to The Bungalow to allow for expansion of the pre-school, which currently has a large waiting list.

The application attracted no objections, with planning officers saying the building would not stand out from the other buildings on the school site and would have a negligible impact on the nearest properties in Holbaek Close, being screened by a belt of trees.
