Dorchester schoolchildren were treated to a very special royal visit when Queen Elizabeth I, King Charles II and Queen Victoria came to tea in their classroom.

Reception pupils at The Prince of Wales School have been learning about the kings and queens of England and were delighted when they received replies to their hand written invitations.

Speaking about the visit, Queen Elizabeth I - brought back to life by Year One class teacher, Miss Alissa White - said: "One enjoyed a most delightful royal visit with school children at The Prince of Wales School. The children were fascinated by my black teeth and love of sugar."

King Charles II was brought back to life by headteacher Mr Gary Spracklen, who showed the children how the great Fire of London started and how it spread so quickly.

He said: "I found the loyal subjects very welcoming. They were fascinated by what happened to my late father, King Charles I, during the English Civil War - he was executed in 1649."

Queen Victoria - brought to life by senior HR and finance officer, Mrs Juliet Troughton - brought along her favourite cake to share - a Victoria sponge.

She said: "Having nine children myself did not prepare me for their energy, their passion and their thirst for knowledge. I know our nation's future is safe in their hands."

Speaking about the experience of hosting royalty, reception pupil Popy said: "It was very special - I loved it."

Fellow reception pupil Thomas added: "I want the kings and queens of England to spend every day learning with us here at The Prince of Wales School."
