Plans are afoot for Dorchester to celebrate the 50th anniversary of twinning with the German town of Lubbevcke.

The celebrations will take place over four days in the first week in June when the Thomas Hardy Victorian Fair will take place.

Dorchester Town Council has appointed a Task and Finish Group to oversee the events which will commence on Friday, June 2 when the German guests will arrive.

Other activities will include a heritage walk, fish and chips at NorteFort, a visit to the three museums and a wreath laying followed by a civic reception.

The town council believes it is important to showcase Dorchester and the council's partnerships and projects and to focus on activities in the town and the work of the council.

The Mayor of Dorchester, Cllr Janet Hewitt, has been invited to attend the town festival in Lubbecke in August.

Dorchester is also twinned with Bayeux in Normandy, the 60th anniversary of which was celebrated in 2019.
