A unique exhibition showing the evolution of artwork is coming to Sculpture by the Lakes near Dorchester.

The Narrative Ark, an exhibition of work by internationally recognised Arizona-based artist, Andrew Denman, will showcase seven finished paintings alongside studies, sketches, and more detailed preparatory drawings, exploring each piece from its initial spark to completed work.

Simon Gudgeon, acclaimed sculptor and owner of Sculpture by the Lakes, said: "This is a really exceptional exhibition, not only by virtue of the beauty and quality of the work, but for the captivating glimpse it gives into the creative mind of the artist, the depth of his observation, and the meticulous and intense process that lies behind an artwork. It makes visible to the viewer much of what usually remains hidden.

"We are delighted to be able to bring this exciting artist's work to Gallery by the Lakes, and indeed to welcome the man himself, who, all being well, will be making the journey over from Arizona for the grand opening of the exhibition."

Andrew Denman primarily paints wildlife and animal and his acrylic paintings can be found in museum collections on two continents and in numerous private collections across USA and abroad.

The Narrative Ark, a collection of new artworks depicting UK birds and wildlife, will be at Gallery by the Lakes from October 9 to 30.

Mr Denman said: "Having exhibited at this very special place back in 2019 I know that Sculpture by the Lakes is the ideal location for The Narrative Ark. I share so much in common with its founder Simon, including a life-long passion for wildlife, and the park itself is a celebration of nature and beauty, just like these paintings. In fact, I observed most of the bird and animal subjects I am exploring in the show right here at Sculpture by the Lakes.

"I have never done an exhibition like this before, and I am really excited to share it with people in Dorset.

"The show's unique format opens up a window into the creative evolution of an artwork, and my methods and approach as an artist which I hope will help the viewer experience and appreciate the work in an entirely new way."

Simon added: "It's a must-see event for anyone who loves art or wildlife and it offers collectors the opportunity to own an original work at a wide range of price points too."
