Dorchester walk of the week: Little ponder around Poundbury

25th Aug 2021 | Local News

We have introduced a walk of the week for our newsletter subscribers to enjoy over the weekend.

Each Friday we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

This week's walk is a two and a half mile route taking in parts of Poundbury and lasts around one hour.

Start in Westcott Street, go up it and at the end turn right onto Great Cranford Street. When you approach Dunnabridge Square, there will be a footpath on your left just before. Go down there.

When the footpath reaches a road, cross it and go down the path opposite. Follow this path under the road bridge - take care as there are some piles of gravel - and just as you come out, there will be a gate on your right. Go through it and into the field.

Stick to the right-hand side as you make your way through the field and continue following this path.

Follow the path to the end of the next field and go through the gate on the left, turning right onto the road and go up the hill.

Continue along the road until you get to Poundbury cemetery. Just after the entrance go through the metal gate on your right. Follow the gravel path and where it forks, turn right.

When you come to a T-junction, turn right, turning left just as you reach a road and houses. Continue walking along the path next to the green until you reach a road.

Turn right and continue along that path, through Queen Mother Square, until Westcott Street is on your right.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.

Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
