Dorchester walk of the week: Town and countryside

Each first Friday of the month we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area for our newsletter subscribers to enjoy. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

This week's walk starts in the town and goes into the Dorchester countryside, coming back past Coker's Frome Farm. It is 3.8 miles and takes around one hour and 40 minutes.

Start at the riverside path off London Road, on the same side of the road as the Shell garage, and walk along the river. When you reach John's Pond, turn right.

Continue straight along this path and when it comes out onto a bend, turn right, following the footpath signs. When you get to a road, cross it and continue along the path to the left.

Keep following the path straight and it will go down the right-hand side of a field. At the end of that field, turn right. Go over the stile and continue along the right-hand side of the field.

Go through the gate at the end of the field to another gate and go through it. Continue straight, past farm buildings on your right.

When you get to a gate, go over the stile on the right and go through the field, bearing right to a stile in the fence. Continue straight through the next field and go over the stile at the end of the field to continue along the path.

Cross the road and go down the path opposite and take the stile immediately on your left and follow the path through the field. Go over the next stile and continue straight to go through the small gate opposite a house.

This path will bring you out onto Grey Bridge. Turn right on the road to walk up London Road and back to the beginning.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.

Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
