Works to reduce surface water flooding to the road and homes in Portesham begin today (Monday, November 1).

There could be potential delays to drivers on the coast road as three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place at the Goose Hill junction with Malthouse Meadow for around six weeks.

The work will install new surface water draining under and next to the road to increase capacity of the drainage system.

The road will be reshaped during its resurfacing to take surface water into the new improved drainage system.

Work will be carried out from 7.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, however, due to the type of work being carried out, the traffic lights will need to be in place 24/7 for safety reasons.

When the drainage improvements are finished, the area will be resurfaced during night work. Goose Hill junction with Malthouse Meadow will be closed for two nights - 8pm on Thursday, December 16 to 6am on Friday, December 17 and 8pm on Friday, December 17 to 6am on Saturday, December 18.

During the night closure, the signed diversion route will be: Front Street - Portesham Hill - Coombe Road - B3159 - A35 - B3157.

This scheme is being carried out on behalf of the Dorset Council Flood Risk Management Team and is funded by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
