Dorchester's Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum will soon be launching a Memory Café.

From Monday, August 2, there will be a relaxed drop=in session for those with memory difficulties and their carers and/or family members.

The sessions will run from 10am to 12noon every first Monday of the month. The first session will be starting with a coffee and chat, and as the sessions grow, activities and workshops will be introduced.

Abbie King, director of Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum, said: "We are delighted to be launching a Memory Café at Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum. This is a really important asset for Dorchester and one we are very proud of.

"Being confined to your house shouldn't be the social norm. Having a cup of tea and a chat, in the right space, where daily challenges are removed even for just a couple of hours, can make a real difference to people's lives."

As an organisation, Shire Hall has recently become Dementia Friendly through the Alzheimer's Society and staff have undergone dementia awareness training.

The Memory Café will be held in Shire Hall's learning room, one of its light and open spaces. People will have the opportunity to interact and socialise, alongside enjoying delicious food.

The team at David Upshall Insurance is thrilled to be supporting Shire Hall Memory Café.

David Upshall said: "It is incredibly important to have inclusive events such as this. This is simple support that goes a long way for both those with dementia and their carers. We need to work together as a community."

Entry to Shire Hall Memory Café is free. The café will be open to purchase drinks and snacks at a discounted rate.
