Get your running shoes on and have some fun as the Lions Club of Dorchester's Fun Run and Summer Fest returns.

Both events are taking place on Poundbury's Great Field on Sunday, May 8, with the fun run starting at 11am with the mayor of Dorchester.

Summer Fest starts after the run with a whole host of activities and entertainment.

Coming along are Bugfest, Juggling Jake and his circus skills, Xtreme Falconry with flying displays, summertime Santa and his Chinese raffle and knob throwing and wellie whanging with Gary Spracklen, headteacher of Prince of Wales School.

There will also be a display by Dorchester Ballet and Dance Club and a variety of stalls from local charities.

The Parker family will be selling their sweetie delights and there will be a barbecue, ice creams and drinks courtesy of Pavilion in the Park, which will also be organising some entertainment.

The main beneficiary of the event will be the Dorchester Child Contact Centre and sponsors include Poundbury Community Trust, Damo's Taxis, Wessex Property Services and Kemp and Co. Property Ltd.

A spokesman for the event said: "This event is as much about giving local charities the opportunity to take part and raise some money for themselves, as it is about raising money for the Lions.

"By coming along and enjoying the afternoon, you will be giving your support to some very worthwhile organisations, as well as having a great deal of fun. And it is very much hoped that the new play area will be open and ready for action."
