A new shop is gracing Dorchester's high street, offering gifts, homewares and lifestyle products.

Sue and Andy Mewett opened No.36 Gifts & Lifestyle in South Street just before Christmas. They moved to Dorchester around three and a half years ago after visiting family in Weymouth, but Covid delayed their plans to open the shop.

Andy said: "Sue used to run a gift shop before in London, so when we started to see the empty units come up and seeing the town just start to struggle, we thought we can hopefully help enliven the town with some interesting gifts and a nice shop for them to come in and visit, pick up gifts or shop for ideas."

Sue added that they looked at a few units that weren't quite right, but this one was in just the right place.

They had lots of people knocking on the door as they were getting ready to open and have received lots of positive comments.

She said: "Everyone has been so lovely and so positive. This is the type of shop people want to see in Dorchester, which is reassuring… we want to see it thrive."

Andy added: "We want to see Dorchester pick up. We really want to try and help make Dorchester an interesting place so that people from outside the town visit."

No.36 is open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and you can keep up-to-date with products and news of the store at its Facebook page.
