The Broadmayne scheme.

SEVERAL large housing schemes in Dorchester and in nearby villages have been 'signed off' by Dorset Council, allowing development, where it has not already been started, to go ahead.

They include the lomng-running 80-home Broadmead development for affordable housing at Broadmayne, which had led to widespread objections.

This has now been agreed along with a temporary access road to the site which, once the development has finished, will become part of a parkland area.

Also given final decisions are more than 100 homes on what is known as the North West Quadrant at the Duchy's Poundbury estate – the consent tying up the details of the phase which has been talked about for several years.

In Crossways minor changes have been approved to a 140-home development off Frome Valley Road.

Also agreed is a minor change to remove one house from Phase 3 of the 195-home Dorchester Brewery development, another of the county town's larger housing schemes and, after a long wait of 5 years, approval for a proposal for 15 affordable homes on former tennis courts off West Walks.
