A ROMANY, Gypsy and Traveller event, is to be held in Dorchester's Borough Gardens later this month.

It will celebrate the history and culture of members of the community, telling the history of travelling people in the country and about their lifestyle and how it has changed – also dealing with the prejudice and barriers the communities face.

Among the planned activities at the event on Saturday, 15 June are traditional wooden peg making, a static display of caravans and benders with members of the community available to answer questions and talk about how they and their families used to live.

The free event is organised by the Kushti Bok organisation as part of national Gypsy Roma Traveller History month.

Dorchester Town Council has agreed a grant of £250 towards the expenses of running the event with £950 coming from Awards for All.
