Latest Covid figures in Dorset: Cases increase in Dorset Council area

Coronavirus cases have increased across the Dorset Council area this week.

Public Health Dorset reports that there are 1,376 confirmed cases in the last seven days in the Dorset Council area, compared to 1,166 on August 20, and 1,612 in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council area, compared to 1,1614 on August 20.

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 of the population in the Dorset Council area is 362.3, compared to 307 on August 20, and 406.1 in the BCP Council area, compared to 406.6 on August 20.

There are currently 44 people with Covid-19 in hospital beds in Dorset, compared to 41 on August 20.

A spokesman for Public Health Dorset said: "In line with the national picture, Covid-19 case rates remain high across the county. Case rates in the BCP Council area have stayed the same this week and Dorset Council's case rate has increased this week. Both case rates are below the SW region average but higher than England's average.

"We can see that vaccinations are having a significant impact on preventing serious illness and stopping many people from needing hospital treatment, as hospitalisations remain much lower than at similar points during previous waves."
