Latest Dorchester 'grotspot' in focus
By Trevor Bevins - Local Democracy Reporter 20th Feb 2026
A DORCHESTER resident has nominated another 'grot spot' in the town – outside the town's West rail station.
It comes after councillor Richard Biggs complained that many areas of the town were now looking tatty and in need of attention – calling for colleagues to draw up their own list of places needing attention.
Putting forward the West Station road as being in need of attention David Gargrave said:
"Like many residents it grieves me to see the state of some areas and more so that nothing is done about it. There seems to be a lack of civic pride and responsibility.
"One area that stands out for me is the approach to Dorchester West Railway station, from the old Web Major builders yard onwards, bordering the Range.
"The mass of litter is appalling and for some reason seems beyond the scope of either our council litter picking or the operators of the Range. Imagine your first impression of Dorchester if you have just arrived by train. More like a third world environment.
"Equally if you peer into the old builders yard you are presented with a huge amount of randomly dumped rubbish.
"It will be good for councillors to walk around the town to see the problem. Equally businesses should be made accountable for their curtilage.
"Let's get back some civic pride in the town."
