Launch of Coastland College marks new era for Dorset education

By Francesca Evans 9th Sep 2025

FROM this week, Weymouth and Kingston Maurward College will adopt the new name of Coastland College, marking the next chapter in the College's journey following the merger of the two institutions in August 2024.

The move reflects a renewed purpose and vision developed by the Governors and the Senior Team over the past year, designed to strengthen partnerships with industry and the community, and to ensure students and apprentices are equipped with the skills they need to thrive.

Coastland College's fresh, new brand identity was well received by the public as it debuted at the Dorset County Show over the weekend.

Earlier this year, the College was judged as 'Good' by Ofsted, with the report highlighting its 'strong contribution' to meeting regional skills needs. This recognition underlines the College's growing role in supporting both higher education progression and career opportunities that align with local economic demand.

As Coastland College, the organisation will continue to operate across its two existing campuses, with each campus bringing its own strengths to the newly named College.

At the Kingston Maurward campus, near Dorchester, students gain hands-on expertise in environmental subjects, including agriculture, horticulture, countryside management and animal welfare and science, as well as public services and sport, in a setting deeply rooted in sustainability and practical learning.

At the Weymouth campus, learners benefit from a diverse choice of courses across health, digital, construction and engineering, A-Levels, creative media and many more, equipping them with the technical and academic skills to succeed in industries locally and beyond.

Together these campuses provide an unrivalled breadth of opportunity for learners of all ages in Dorset.

Principal and CEO of Coastland College Kate Wills said today: "Our new name and look as Coastland College represents who we are today and where we are heading. Just like our coastline, we are ever-moving yet constant.

"Today we start a new chapter under one bold, flexible and unmistakable new name and identity, stronger and more ambitious than ever. Education at Coastland College is more than a qualification, it is a launchpad for transformation."

Chair of Governors Chris Evans added: "Our new name identity captures the spirit of our College and the communities we serve. Coastland College reflects our ambition to provide opportunity and inspiration for every learner, while remaining firmly connected to our region and its industries. It is a name that will carry us confidently into the future."

The governing body and legal entity will remain Weymouth and Kingston Maurward College, with all marketing, communications and College activity carrying the Coastland College name.
