More than 100 households are taking part in a jumble trail in Dorchester - which once sold a car.

The event, now in its sixth year, has continued to grow from Monmouth Road and even more streets are joining in on Sunday, May 1.

Ellie, who organises the jumble trail said: "We first set up the jumble trail seven years ago after hearing from a friend about something similar in Brighton. My children and I tentatively pushed a few leaflets through letterboxes one summer holiday and were amazed with the positive response from neighbours.

"Initially it was just going to be in our street, Monmouth Road, but we quickly had other people nearby asking to join in. We are now heading into the sixth one and have over 100 households taking part."

The streets involved form a grid between Monmouth and Manor Road, so people can walk easily around the stalls. A map can be found here, showing the households taking part and what they are selling.

Ellie added: "Stalls range from good old jumble to plants, cakes, craft, books, clothes - I think one year someone sold a car!

"It's a great way for local families to shop affordably and sustainably. For the people taking part, it's a great way to meet your neighbours. I've now got firm friends on my street who I may otherwise never have spoken to.

"There's a great community feel on the day and at the moment, an air of excitement and anticipation.

"There will be a vegan café at the top of Monmouth Road and Vinyl Van from brewery Square will be playing some tunes outside the pub. All we need now is the sun to shine."

The event runs on Sunday, May 1 from 10am to 2pm and visitors are urged to park at either the market car park or one of the wider roads to keep it safe for people on foot. Stall holders will be happy to hold onto large purchases for you to come back later in the day with the car.
