Pictures: Dorchester Remembrance Sunday parade and service 2021

Hundreds of people came out to remember and honour all those who lost their lives at war.

Residents and visitors gathered at the war memorial on the corner of South Street and South Walks.

A parade set off from the Corn Exchange led by The Dorchester Band and mayor, councillor Gareth Jones, followed by veterans, servicemen, dignitaries, representatives from Dorchester Town Council, local schools, groups and organisations and made its way to the war memorial where a service took place, led by the Rev Keith Magee.

The Exhortation was read by Sgt Alex Miller of the C Coy 6 Rifles before The Last Post was sounded by Thomas Hardye School student, Lloyd Dunn, and a two-minute silence.

George Osborne, of the Dorchester Royal Naval Association, red the Kohima Epitaph before the laying of the wreaths.

Those laying wreaths included: C Coy 6 Rifles, Royal Wessex Yeomanry, Dorchester Detachment Army Cadet Force, The Thomas Hardye School, Royal Observer Corps, Dorchester Royal Naval Association, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Lions Club of Dorchester, the Rotary clubs of Dorchester, Dorchester Chamber of Business, Royal Voluntary Service, Dorchester Round Table, 41 Club, St John Ambulance, Girl Guiding Mid Dorset,, Central Dorchester Scout Group, Damers First School, Foresters Friendly Society, Dorchester Rugby Club, Fundraising Friends 222 and Prince of Wales School.

Music during the service was provided by the Durnovaria Silver Band.
