Dorset's eight constituencies all have Conservative MPs, but only two have spoken out on their views about the vote of no confidence.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing a vote of no confidence this evening (Monday) after 54 letters from Conservative letters calling for his departure were received.

A ballot will be held between 6pm and 8pm and votes counted immediately.

We are yet to hear from West Dorset MP Chris Loder about whether or not he will be supporting the Prime Minister.

We have also contacted West Dorset Conservatives, Conservative Dorset councillors, Conservative Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, David Sidwick, and Dorset's MPs about the vote.

Sir Robert Syms, MP for Poole, previously told The Times that the party had no direction under Boris Johnson and that he would take "a lot of persuading" to back the Prime Minister if it came to a no confidence vote. 

Michael Tomlinson, MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole, has yet to speak publicly about the vote, along with South Dorset MP Richard Drax.

Christopher Chope, MP for Christchurch and East Dorset has made a statement. He said: "After the unalloyed joy of the Jubilee, it is disappointing that some of my parliamentary colleagues are behaving like headless chickens. I hope that the vast majority will show their confidence in our Prime Minister and help put this distraction behind us."

Conor Burns, MP for Bournemouth West, also gave his support to the PM. He said: "I will vote to support Boris tonight. I watched how broken our politics became in 2019 and was convinced only he could fix it. Having won the biggest mandate of any Tory leader since Lady T and got the big calls right, he commands support. The people should be his judge."

Tobias Ellwood, MP for Bournemouth East, shared a letter from former Treasury Minister Jesse Norman, to the Prime Minister stating he can no longer support him.

He said: "A very powerful call from one of our most talented MPs calling for improved leadership and a grand economic plan. We will lose the election if our policies appeal solely to our party base. Our party wants inspired leadership and a clear vision to follow rather than being followed."

Simon Hoare, MP for North Dorset, has shared a Tweet from John Campbell, BBC's NI Economics and business editor, which states, 'In a no-confidence letter the former Treasury Minister Jesse Norman has warned the PM that breaching the NI Protocol would be 'economically v damaging, politically foolhardy and almost certainly illegal'', with the comment, 'and Jesse Norman is right'. He has not yet stated which way he will vote.
