PUPILS at Broadmayne First School are taking part in a week long 'Tour De Broadmayne' challenge, having received sponsorship commitments during the Easter break.

The challenge at the school on Knighton Lane, Broadmayne, Dorchester, is a week-long sponsored event where every when child and staff member will have the opportunity to take part and take turns to sit on a spin bike to cycle for as long as they like.

The event has been organised by the Friends of Broadmayne, who hope to raise £5,000 to purchase new play equipment.

Already the tally has topped £2,000 thanks to donations and sponsorship from Dorchester Lions.

Funds raised will go towards a bicycle roundabout.

Jennier Mollett from the Friends says: "The aim is to purchase a bicycle roundabout for use in playtime and lunch breaks.

"This incredible, innovative piece of play equipment helps children to learn balance, cycling skills, endurance, fitness as well as fostering their ability to effectively communicate and work within a team...and all within play!

"We also aim to enthuse our children and families to consider more environmentally friendly modes of transport where possible, promoting a love of cycling, exercise, teamwork and being outdoors."
