By Nub News Reporter 7th Nov 2023

Dorchester will play host to two major Remembrance events this coming weekend.

Dorset Council will hold its annual Remembrance Service on Armistice Day.

The Service will take place at 10.40am on Saturday, 11 November at the Memorial Area at County Hall in Dorchester.

The Service will be led by Revd John Yarrien, and the introduction will be read by Cllr Val Pothecary, Chairman of Dorset Council before the wreaths are laid.

A Bugler and Band will be in attendance and HM Lord-Lieutenant Angus Campbell and Queen's Gurkha Signals Captain Vijay Raj Ghale will read the Exhortation and Kohima Plea respectively, followed by a two-minute silence.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at Dorchester's War Memorial on Sunday, 12 November at 10.55am.

All are welcome to attend and members of organisations are invited to contact Dorcester Town Council.

The service will be live-streamed on the Dorchester Town Council Facebook page.

At 12.30pm for 12.45pm there will be a short ceremony at the Memorial to German Prisoners of War in Fordington Cemetery to remember the millions of people of other nationalities who have lost their lives through conflict.
