Rural planning applications

By Trevor Bevins - Local Democracy Reporter   13th Oct 2025

A SERIES of planning applications have been submitted for the area around Dorchester, ranging from home extensions to certificates of lawful use and full redevelopment proposals.

In Winterbourne Steepleton, where the existing dwelling at Corydon, Roman Road ( P/FUL/2025/05327) could be demolished and replaced with a new four-bedroom home featuring off-road parking.

In Crawthorne, an application ( P/CLE/2025/05675) has been lodged for the continued use of Dewlish Park Barn as a single home. The applicant claims the property has been used in breach of its original live/work condition for over four years, and is seeking a certificate of lawfulness to formalise the residential use.

In Frampton, a similar certificate ( P/CLE/2025/05403) is being sought for The Brick House, an annex to The Old School on Dorchester Road. The proposal aims to confirm its ongoing use as a standalone home.

In Crossways, a homeowner at 10 Hurricane Close ( P/HOU/2025/04611) has applied to build a single-storey rear extension, adding extra living space to the property.

Historic building works are proposed in Sydling St Nicholas, where 1 The Old Vicarage ( P/LBC/2025/05381) could see its timber lintel replaced and external render removed to expose original chalk stone quoins. The application falls under listed building consent due to the property's heritage status.

In Cerne Abbas, plans have been submitted ( P/HOU/2025/05336) to replace an existing rear conservatory at 2 Riverside Close with a smaller extension. The proposal also includes replacing all windows and doors with lighter wood-effect alternatives.

All applications are currently under consideration by Dorset Council's planning department.
