DORCHESTER Recycling Centre on St George's Road was shut down this afternoon (Thursday, 10 September) while emergency services dealt with a suspected unxploded bomb nearbuy.

Dorset Council reported the potential unexploded ordnance has been found at a site next door and the waste recycling centre was closed and evacuated while emergency services and the army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team assessed the item.

The alarm was raised shortly after midday and soon afterwards a council spokesperson said: "Dorset Police are in attendance and the area has been evacuated. We do not believe there is any danger to the public at this time.

"People who have booked slots at the HRC this afternoon will need to re-book for a different day, or use an alternative site.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, thank you for your understanding."
